SS: Do You Sleep? - Part 3

27.05 to 29.30

Part 3

Khirad was determined that she wouldn't fall asleep again; she wouldn't give him the satisfaction but Khirad was so tired. She was tired of putting on a happy face for Hareem, tired of ignoring Asher's mother's underhanded jibes and tired of Asher's accusing glares.

If it hadn't been Hareem's last night at home before she had to be admitted to the Hospital for her treatment Khirad would have refused. She would have asked Asher to put Hareem to sleep on his own and gone to her own bed to cry in peace. She wanted to cry for the injustice of Hareem, only four years old and having to have surgery on her barely formed heart. Why couldn't she have been the one with congenital heart disease instead of her daughter? Khirad's heart was strong and it was strengthened even further every day by the accusations she could see in Asher's eyes.

When she was certain Hareem wouldn't awake again Khirad kissed her on the forehead and began to leave. She looked at Asher one last time, his eyes were closed and his chest rising and falling softly. He looked innocent and good, just like she had once imagined him to be.

As she left Khirad wished she hadn't looked at him. Now when she cried tonight, because she inevitably would, she knew she would cry for him too. Cry for what they had lost, cry because she had been unable to make him see the truth and because she didn't even want him to anymore.

---

Asher woke and realised the hand he was holding was Hareem's and not Khirad's as he had been dreaming of. He jerked his head to see if she had lain down next to Hareem but she was nowhere to be seen.

Last week he had felt a flare of anger when he'd realised she'd fallen asleep in his room, that they'd fallen asleep holding hands but waking up alone today he felt strangely disappointed.

He leant his head back intending to sleep but no sooner had he closed his eyes he opened them again. He knew she would be unable to sleep; she would be worrying about Hareem and the operation. She needed him right now.

  1. Your words portrayed the helplessness and frustraion of Khirad well. I understand and know Khirad's helplessness and frustration as my 3-year-old son has already undergone 2 surgeries and is lined up for one more. Your child in pain is never an easy sight for a mother, even though she knows it is for his/her own good!!
This story is more like arnav-like story!! Asher does love her but misunderstands her!! He even dreams of holding her hands!
When she told about Hareem, did Asher accept it and not question her about not being his own? Am sorry to bother you with these questions..'cz of time constraints i cannot watch another serial or take the risk of getting addicted! LOL
I loved this para. It saddened me and left me with a whirlwind of emotions: "As she left Khirad wished she hadn't looked at him. Now when she cried tonight, because she inevitably would, she knew she would cry for him too. Cry for what they had lost, cry because she had been unable to make him see the truth and because she didn't even want him to anymore."
Eager to know more about them..

  2. oh man that is painful.
The thought, the words, the actions.
The hurt that will develop for the other and for oneself. one rash decision can change the course of a life forever...
