Day 21

‘Akash mere Bhai, dressing in a saree is no big deal! Just think of the benefits, you’ll get to see Payal Bhabi!’

Arnav groaned and tried to concentrate on what he was typing. NK had arrived this morning for the wedding and been annoying him ever since. The man never seemed to shut up! ‘It’s a stupid idea NK! Buaji will catch you out in a second!’

‘No, no Nanav, who is this Buaji to stop my brother Akash meeting his beloved? I’ll stop her! Besides you have to come too. Don’t you want to see Khushi Bhabi? I hear she’s lots of fun, I can’t wait to meet her!’

‘She’s already my wife, I don’t need to dress up like a woman to look at her secretly. Besides unlike Akash, I possess something called patience. I’ll see her tomorrow anyway.’

‘But Bhai...’

Arnav picked up his laptop and walked away to the poolside where hopefully he could finish his work in peace.

---

Khushi eyed the two ‘women’ at the back of the room suspiciously. They both had their pallus covering their entire faces and one of them was certainly the tallest woman she’d ever encountered. She grinned as she made her way over, careful of the rest of the guests and mehndi artists gathered around Payal and sat down next to the shorter lady.

‘Auntyji don’t you want to have mehndi applied?’

The woman shook her head violently but Khushi insisted and pulled out a very unfeminine hand. There was a lot of struggling as the woman kept trying to tug her hand away but Khushi finally succeeded in completing her mehndi design. She put the cone down on the floor and held the hand in front of her to look at her handiwork.

As she read the words ‘I love Khushi Kumari Gupta’ printed in large letters across the palm, a sense of trepidation began to overtake her as she realised the hand was not one she was familiar with. She turned the hand over just to make sure but it definitely was not the hand of her husband and Khushi dropped it with a squeal before undraping the pallu to reveal a man she had never met before in her life. ‘Argh! Who are you?!’

‘Erm... erm... Khushiji...’

All of the guests had turned around now to see what the problem was and Khushi stood up with her hands on her hips.

‘Who are you and what are you doing in my house?! How do you know my name?!’

‘Akash bhai, please help me!’

‘Akashji? Haye Devi Maiyya! Who is this?’

---

‘What the fuck is this?’

‘Erm... actually Nanav, you see I think Khushi Bhabi thought that I was... you know... you so that’s why... I mean I would never...’

NK squirmed and tried to free his hand from Arnav’s firm grasp shooting pleading looks at Akash who just shrugged his shoulders. After the blasting they’d received from Buaji and Khushi, Akash figured this was the least that NK deserved for making him go through with that stupid plan.

NK misinterpreted the look on Arnav’s face and hurried to correct his mistake, ‘I mean not that I wouldn’t love her! She’s very pretty but... ow!’

Arnav squeezed NK’s hand painfully before releasing it in disgust and striding out of the room.

---

‘Amma, Maaji what do you think? Do you like my mehndi?’ Khushi looked at the mehndi clad hands she had held up to the starlit sky and frowned. She’d expected Arnav to turn up today but he’d been on his best behaviour. He’d only called once briefly in the morning to say good morning and hadn’t even mentioned the fact that they’d be apart all day. Then he hadn’t come to drop Di off and he hadn’t even bothered to turn up with Nanheji and Akashji. She couldn’t even call him herself because her phone was inside and even if she did get it, she didn’t want to ruin her mehndi so how would she dial?

‘Maaji, can you believe your son? He makes all these promises to me during the night about how much he loves me, how he could never live without me but when it actually comes down to it he doesn’t care at all. Does he?’

‘Amma, can you believe your daughter?’

Khushi looked up in shock as Arnav came and sat down next to her on the bench.

‘She says that I belong to her, that I should never look at another woman but then the first opportunity she gets she makes my cousin fall in love with her and even writes it on his hand!’

‘Arnav!’ Khushi lifted a hand to hit him on his shoulder before she caught sight of her mehndi again and put her hand back down with a pout.

‘Khushiiii,’ Arnav mimicked as he smiled and put his arms around Khushi’s waist and rested his head on her shoulder.

‘Hmph,’ Khushi tried to move away but he held on. ‘Why did you bother coming now? Nanheji said that before you were giving all these big talks about ‘patience’ and how I’m already your wife so now you can’t be bothered to come and see me.’

Arnav grinned and kissed Khushi’s shoulder through her dress, ‘did you really think I came dressed in a saree with Akash? Really? What I meant was; you’re my wife, I don’t need to visit you secretly.’

‘Oh right, and this isn’t secretly?’ She indicated towards the darkened garden.

‘Where’s the secrecy? Your parents are here, so are mine. I bet Akash would never dare hug Payal in front of his parents.’

Khushi rolled her eyes and rested her head against his. ‘Arnav.’

‘Hmmm?’

‘Do you... I mean do you really have so much patience?’

Arnav’s head rocketed up to look at Khushi, his eyes gleaming in the moonlight, ‘Khushi, is this your way of saying you have none? Are you suggesting what I think you are?’

‘What? No,’ she bristled and looked away trying to hide her face which she knew would reveal everything to him. ‘I was just... wondering you know... how you’re... I mean...’

Arnav grabbed her waist again and pulled her onto his lap, ‘wondering what?’

‘Nothing, nothing, now let me go, you’re going to ruin my mehndi!’

‘No I won’t,’ he said as he lifted her arms up and onto his shoulders although she didn’t wind them around his neck as usual. ‘See look, they’re out of the way.’

---

There was a shuffling noise behind them and Arnav froze. His hands had been inside Khushi’s dress, lightly caressing the bottom of her breasts as he mercilessly kissed and teased her while she was unable to do anything to stop him except protest occasionally.

‘Arnav, please! You have to go! What if Babuji comes out?’

He groaned and lowered her off his lap and back onto the bench next to him. ‘I think I’m beginning to run out of patience,’ he growled as he adjusted his trousers slightly to make himself slightly more comfortable.

‘Beginning to?’ Khushi scoffed as she examined her mehndi for any signs of disturbance.

‘Khushi,’ Arnav looked at her warningly but before he could do anything she leapt up and ran towards the house.

‘See you tomorrow!’

  6. I love the story and there as something so touching about this part! I loved the obvious bond between them.

Khushi's wistfulness and dissappointment that Arnav actually managed to stay away from her for a full day despite being th eone who is keeping him away! And Arnav, knowing his wife, not dissappointing her!

Reminded me of the part where she is upset about how mami will treat Payal and Arnav is consoling her!

Keep writing and updating soon! And pl do update Its not Right! Love that one too! And of coure temporary insanity! Oh the lit is unending!
