FF: 30 Days - Day 17

Day 17

Khushi was sitting on the side of the bed talking on the phone when he came in. She looked up in acknowledgment before she went back to her phone call. ‘Jiji, the pink won’t suit you at all! Tell Buaji I won’t let you wear it, I’ll burn the lengha before you can wear it! I’m going to...’

She jerked her head up to look at him as he moved her scarf away and whispered ‘what are you doing Arnav?’

‘You look tired Khushi, I’m just helping.’ He massaged her shoulders softly smiling non-threateningly as he did.

‘Jiji, look can I talk to you... erm yes okay, tell me.’ She barely paid attention to Payal’s whining as Arnav’s hands kneaded her knotted shoulders, his fingers working magic on her tense muscles. ‘Mmmm, I... huh? Yes Jiji I’m... I’m listening.’

Arnav watched as Khushi closed her eyes and tilted her head back in pleasure and he took the opportunity to quickly lower his head and nip at the juncture between her neck and shoulder.

‘Arnav!’ Khushi opened her eyes sharply and moved away from him shooting him daggers with her eyes. ‘Erm... no Jiji, nothing happened to Arnav, I just... sorry what were you saying?’

Arnav sat behind Khushi and waited until the conversation got slightly more involved before he put his hand on her back and slid her zipper down swiftly. She stood up automatically and turned around to look at him angrily. ‘Jiji, I’m going to have to call you back, bye! Arnav what are you doing?’

He watched amused as she twisted herself to pull her zipper back up, ‘what did I do Khushi?’

‘You know what you did Arnav!’

Arnav raised his arm to try and stop her but she stormed out of the room definitely looking too angry for the situation.

‘Oh come on this is hardly a jalebi-making situation is it?’

Khushi looked up at him leaning casually against the kitchen door as she bit into another jalebi. ‘Not everything is about you Arnav!’

He walked over to her and put his arms around her resting his head on her shoulder, ‘what’s wrong?’

Khushi turned the gas off and put down her ladle and brushed away her fringe picking up another jalebi, ‘Jiji’s worried about Mamiji, how she’ll behave with her after the wedding. I told her she shouldn’t worry but she’s right, Mamiji doesn’t like her. I don’t want my Jiji to spend every day treading one eggshells just so Mamiji doesn’t have something else to shout at her about.’

‘Khushi,’ Arnav picked up a jalebi himself and held it up to her mouth, ‘Payal doesn’t have anything to worry about. Mamiji will come around; you know what she’s like. She loves you now doesn’t she?’

‘Love? I think love might be a bit too strong, tolerate more like. That too only because you’d bite her head off if she ever said anything to me.’

Khushi held his hand and licked off the syrup as she had done a week ago but Arnav controlled his own hunger this time, holding her close with his other arm. ‘Hey now, I think it’s a good thing Mami doesn’t actually show you how much she loves you. Your head would get even bigger otherwise with the way the rest of my family fawn over you all the time.’

Khushi hit his arm and laughed, ‘Arnav! I do not have a big head.’

Arnav moved her around so she was facing him and pretended to examine her, ‘are you sure? It looks pretty big to me.’

Khushi sighed and hugged Arnav and he tightened his arms around her and kissed her hair.

‘Besides, Payal has you on her side doesn’t she so I think Mami’s the one that should be worried, not Payal. Now come on, it’s late and you’re tired. Let’s go to sleep.’

Khushi nodded, moving only slightly so her head was still on Arnav’s chest but she was now at his side as they walked out of the kitchen together.
