Part 11
Arnav raised an eyebrow as he shifted over on his chair slightly as Khushi sat down and put her arm through his and rested her head on his shoulder. He sighed and closed his laptop before looking down at the top of her head. 'Okay, what do you want?'
Khushi's head shot up immediately and she looked insulted. 'What do you mean, what do I want? Your my fiance! Can't I just want to spend some time with my fiance?'
'Spend some time with me? Yes. Come into my room silent as a ghost and all this?' he indicated to the arm she was still holding in her hands, 'no.'
Khushi pursed her lips together and pulled her hands back and stood up. 'You're so unromantic Arnav!'
'Unromantic? Me? No less than you!'
Khushi narrowed her eyes at him before she conceded and sat back down next to him. He did have a point, she wasn't very demonstrative with her affections but then neither was he. 'Okay fine, I want to talk to you about the wedding.'
'Have you set a date yet? That's all I need to know, when and where to turn up,' he put an arm around Khushi and pulled her backwards so they were leaning against the back of the chair. 'Don't start getting me involved in all this 'these flowers' 'no these flowers' discussions or I might just call the whole thing off.'
'Yeah right,' Khushi grinned and shoved Arnav with her shoulder and sat up before she continued. 'Okay so I know you don't want like a whole triple wedding thing but Dhruv and Suhana want to wait a while yet so how about just a double wedding?'
Arnav chose not to answer, sitting up himself and waiting for Khushi to read his expression and come to the right conclusion herself.
She folded her arms and pouted in response. 'Fine! I just thought you'd want to get married as soon as possible but now we'll have to wait at least 6 months, maybe a year.'
His face fell immediately, 'WHAT? What are you talking about? Why do we have to wait?'
'Err... it's going to take months to plan Jiji and Akashji's wedding and then even more time to plan ours.'
'What? They're not getting married first. We are!'
'We can't get married first, Jiji's older than me, she has to get married first.'
'Well, I'm older than Akash. So...'
'See, this is why we should have a double wedding.'
'Not happening Khushi, get over it,' he said standing up and walking towards the door smoothing the creases Khushi had made on his sleeve as he did.
'Where are you going?'
'I'm going to go and set a wedding date, since you seem unable to do even the simplest things.' He stepped out into the hallway before he paused and turned around back to the room. 'And we will be getting married first. Understand?'
---
'No way Di, I need to see every single one of you in front of my eyes before I hand over any money.'
'Don't you trust us Chote?'
'Not one tiny bit,' Arnav folded his arms and waited patiently as Payal went to call the others. 'Especially after you all watched me like a hawk so I wouldn't meet Khushi after the sangeet.'
Dhruv and Suhana came first with Akash, NK and then Payal with her and Khushi's cousins behind them.
'What's up Bhai? Nervous? Do you need me and Akash bhai to give you some advice huh?'
Arnav ignored Dhruv's jibes and put his hand into the pocket of his shervani to take out the cheque he'd made out in the morning. 'I just wanted to make sure none of you was dressed as a bride and waiting to surprise me when I got inside.'
'Actually Nanav, I did offer to dress up in a lengha but everyone decided...' NK was quickly shut up by Dhruv and Akash who both smiled weakly at Arnav's now stern look.
Arnav locked the door behind him and turned around with a smirk on his face. She was sitting on the bed, her scarf clutched in her hands covering her head and the entire top half of her body from his gaze. He slowly lowered himself onto the bed next to her, 'time to show you just how romantic I can get.'
He reached forward to pull her scarf up when she moved and brought it up over her head herself. 'You know how to be romantic ASR?'
'What the...?' Arnav jumped back and away from the bed as if scalded while Lavanya doubled over laughing at him. 'I thought you went home ages ago Lavanya?!'
'That's what we wanted you to think ASR. Dhruv knows how your brain works and made sure you saw me leaving.'
Arnav began to answer her scathingly when he noticed the bathroom door was slightly ajar. Ignoring the rest of what Lavanya was saying he stormed over to the bathroom where Khushi stood pointing and laughing silently at him with tears streaming down her face.
He realised then that the lengha Lavanya had been wearing, while eerily similar was nowhere near as detailed and exquisite as the outfit he'd designed himself for Khushi and cursed his hormone addled brain for not noticing it earlier.
'Khushi Kumari Gupta, you are going to pay for this!' He bent down and picked Khushi up onto his shoulder walking back into the room where Lavanya was now nowhere to be found.
Khushi squirmed and struggled against his grip, 'it's Khushi Kumari Raizada actually!'
Arnav walked over to the door with her still over his shoulder locking it again before he moved back towards the bed and threw her onto it. He lowered himself over her, hands placed either side of her shoulders, 'we'll just have to see about that Kumari part won't we?'
