Day 7
Khushi woke up and instantly berated herself. How could she have been so stupid and emotional last night? She knew Arnav would never even look at another woman, it was just to annoy her but she couldn't help the jealousy that took hold of her. She'd even been so stupid as to hold onto him while he was asleep as if she was afraid he would run off with that woman and leave her in the middle of the night or something.
Arnav woke up hugging a pillow and blinked in confusion as he saw the line of pillows in the middle of the bed. Had he dreamt last night? No, she had definitely been in his arms, hadn't she?
His question was answered as soon as he started to get into the shower and found a couple of long stray hairs on the front of his t-shirt. He grinned as he pulled them off, definitely not a dream.
Khushi saw the smug look on Arnav's face as he walked down the stairs and her annoyance from the previous night returned. She ignored Arnav's questioning looks and left him to eat his breakfast alone as she went into the living room to join Akash and Anjali. Arnav took his tea and followed Khushi sitting on the sofa next to Di, while Akash and Khushi sat on the floor sorting through a mountain of sarees.
'I think this one and this one would look the best on Jiji, what do you think Akashji?' Khushi held out two sarees to Akash trying to ignore Arnav.
'Anything is fine, pick whichever ones you want Bhabi.'
'What's all this Akashji and Bhabi you guys have going on? You have to start calling him Jeeju now Khushi and Akash you should just call her Khushi.' Anjali joked as she looked over the sarees herself.
'Of course he has to call her Bhabi. Don't forget, she's my wife first Di.'
'Excuse me! Actually Jiji was my sister first so I will call him Jeeju, it's nothing to do with you. Akashji, you can call me Khushi as well I don't mind.'
'Well, I mind very much!' Arnav liked when Akash called Khushi 'Bhabii' it always made him smile since everyone else only called her Khushi which had no formal attachment to him or their marriage.
'Okay, okay Bhai, no need to get angry. I'm not trying to steal your wife from you.'
Khushi stopped and looked from Arnav to Akash as she tried to control her sudden grin. She had considered giving Arnav a taste of his own medicine last night but the thought of dancing with some strange man not to mention the fact that Arnav would probably create a scene in public had put her off. But now, in front of Di he would never dare say anything so she shuffled over slightly to sit closer to Akash. 'Jeeju, aren't you forgetting? You don't need to steal me at all. I'm going to be your sister-in-law soon, you know aadhi gharwali,' Khushi winked at Akash hoping he would remember last night and get the message.
'Oh of course, my dearest darling sister-in-law. I can't believe I forgot,' Akash smiled at Khushi understanding what she wanted.
Arnav put his cup down and scowled as he saw Anjali and Khushi laugh with Akash. He knew very well what Khushi was doing but he wasn't going to let her affect him. This was her own little revenge for yesterday but he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of making him jealous.
'Okay Jeeju, so which saree do you prefer?' she raised her eyebrows at Akash as she put her hands through his arm.
'Forget about your sister. Today I want to buy my aadhi gharwali a saree. Here, I think this will suit you. It's my favourite colour; blue.'
Akash picked up a saree and held it against Khushi pretending to evaluate it as Arnav seethed. God, this was ridiculous, now he was jealous of his own brother?! 'She doesn't need any new sarees, she's got plenty already. We'll need a new wardrobe if she buys anymore!'
Khushi turned to look at Arnav 'it's my sister's wedding! Of course I'm going to buy new clothes. I can't wear the same old ones I've worn a million other times.' Khushi took the saree out of Akash's hand and put it down next to her on the floor before she sat up on her knees and hugged Akash. 'Thank you so much Jeeju. Jiji is so lucky to have a husband like you.'
Arnav had to clench his fists together to stop himself from reaching over and pulling them apart. It was just Akash, his brother, Khushi's soon to be brother-in-law. There was nothing to be jealous about. 'Di, I'm going to work,' he stood up abruptly deciding he didn't want to stay home and give Khushi the satisfaction of seeing his jealousy.
'But Chote, it's Sunday and you've been working all week. Can't you take one day off?'
'Di, I have to finish all my work because I know you and Khushi would murder me if I missed any of the wedding,' he gave Khushi a disdainful look before he left the room to go and change
Khushi smirked as she watched him go, she could sense the irritation in Arnav's voice and she knew exactly what had irritated him.
