Part 4

'But we have to do something! She hasn't talked to him all day.'

'No, Om! I am not getting involved anymore. And why should she talk to him? He hasn't even told Lavanyaji yet or she would have left by now. No, I'm not going to help you. Khushiji is right to ignore him, how can he treat her like this?' Jai Prakash walked off indignantly towards the living room with Om Prakash following behind.

Arnav finally gave up and stormed off to his room. He'd been looking forward to seeing Khushi ever since she'd left yesterday but today she wasn't even making eye contact with him forget talking to him. He'd hovered downstairs around her, Lavanya and Di all morning Di already looked suspicious so he thought it would probably be best leave when he did.

He lay down on his bed frustrated. What was Khushi doing? Why wouldn't she even look at him? Did she regret kissing him yesterday? The knock on the door had him sitting up immediately and he rushed to open it, 'Khushi?'

It wasn't Khushi, but Om Prakash standing there with what looked suspiciously like a smirk on his face. Arnav still hadn't confronted Om Prakash and Jai Prakash about their meddling because he was secretly pleased with the result but he wasn't going to allow his servants to laugh at him like this. 'Look Om Prakash, just because I've stayed quiet until now don't think you can forget your limits!'

Om Prakash stopped smiling immediately, 'sorry sir, I only came to tell you that Khushiji has called you in the kitchen.'

Arnav tried to control his happiness and not let it show on his face as he rushed past OP to go to the kitchen. He was grateful Di and Lavanya weren't in the living room or he'd have to make some excuse to them about needing water or something and that would put a limit on how long he could spend with Khushi.

He slowed down as he entered the kitchen. Khushi was mixing something with her back to him and was as usual muttering to herself. He smiled as he walked slowly behind her and put his arms around her and his chin on her shoulder, 'I missed you.' He was so happy to finally be with Khushi after almost 24 hours that he didn't notice her stiffen at his touch.

Khushi froze, with her hands all covered in paste she couldn't push Arnav away but she tried to struggle out of his grasp. 'Arnavji, what are you doing? Let me go.'

Arnav let Khushi go in his surprise at her tone, 'Khushi? What's wrong?' She didn't answer him but moved over to the sink to wash her hands. 'Khushi, have I done something wrong?'

'No, you haven't done anything at all, thats the problem' Khushi tried to leave the kitchen but that involved walking past Arnav who held onto her arms as she tried to walk past.

'Then why are you being like this? You've been ignoring me all morning Khushi and I want to know why!'

Khushi refused to look at his face instead choosing to look over his shoulder and concentrate on one of the cupboards there. 'You said you would tell Lavanyaji but... she's still here.'

Arnav cupped Khushi's chin with one hand and forced her to look at him, 'that's it? That's all you're angry about? Khushi, if I had told Lavanya yesterday she would have left and then you wouldn't have come today would you? And then how was I supposed to see you today? Hmm? Khushi?'

Khushi still wouldn't look at Arnav even though she was now facing him she made sure to keep her eyes down. She was still unsure about this whole thing with Arnav. What was he expecting from her? Did he want her to just replace Lavanya?

Arnav was getting annoyed with Khushi refusing to make eye contact with him. This wasn't how he'd been expecting their conversation to go today so he decided to get it back on track and pulled Khushi's chin up to kiss her. He felt her hesitate but he moved his hand to the back of her head pulling her closer. When she began to reciprocate he held her arms which were still by her sides and moved them up and around his neck before settling his own at her waist.

Arnav pulled back slightly to look at Khushi. The shy smile on her face confirmed that she wasn't angry at him anymore. He kissed her once again briefly before letting go of her, 'you stay here Khushi, I'm going to go tell Lavanya now okay. Don't move.' He was about to leave when he noticed Khushi's expression had changed, she seemed scared almost.

'Khushi?'

She squeezed one of his arms and gestured with her head towards the door. Arnav turned to see Lavanya and Di standing watching them. One was upset and the other looked torn between anger and amusement.

***

Om Prakash looked at Jai Prakash accusingly, 'Jai Prakash, how could you do this? I told you to keep Di and Lavanyaji away from here!'

'I didn't do anything! They wanted to come to the kitchen, I just didn't stop them, that's all. Besides I didn't trust Chote Sahib to actually tell Lavanyaji and I can't let him do that to Khushiji. So this way he won't have to now and everything will be out in the open'

Om Prakash and Jai Prakash listened from behind Anjali and Lavanya as Arnav tried to explain himself.

***

'Di, Lavanya, don't blame Khushi, this isn't her fault.'

'I'm not blaming her ASR! How could you do this to Khushi? How can you mess with her life like this?'

'Mess with her life?' Arnav looked from Khushi back to Di and Lavanya in confusion, 'What are you talking about?'

'Chote, Lavanya is right. I won't let you just use Khushi for a couple of months until you get bored of her like you obviously have with Lavanya. They both deserve better than you.'

'Di! What are you saying?' Arnav stopped as he felt Khushi's grip on his arm begin to lessen as she started to move away from him and towards Lavanya and Di. 'Khushi, where are you going?'

Khushi felt her eyes begin to fill with tears. Anjali and Lavanya were right. How could she even be thinking of being with Arnav without even considering her family. Her father was already ill and she was here messing around with her source of income. 'They're right Arnavji, I can't do this. I can't be your girlfriend for a few months and then just move aside for the next girl.'

***

Om Prakash clutched Jai Prakash's arm and looked at him angrily, 'Jai Prakash! How could you? I can't... I can't believe this!'

'I'm so sorry Om! I never thought this would happen. You have to believe me, this isn't what I wanted. I just didn't want Chote Sahib to lead Khushiji on.'

'He wasn't leading her on! This isn't like him and Lavanyaji. It's different, he loves her, I just know it. Why couldn't you trust me for once?' Om Prakash shrugged off Jai Prakash's hand on his shoulder and moved closer to the kitchen to hear better.
